And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. (Romans 12:1 NLT)
This verse has me pondering what exactly it means to live as a holy sacrifice.
‘And so’ implies that it has to do with what came before…the ‘Roman Road’, the path to salvation. Being the branch of the wild olive tree that was, with deliberation & love, grafted into the cultivated tree (Romans 11:17).
This verse is followed by an exhortation to use the gifts God has placed in each one of us.
So, what does living as a holy sacrifice look like? What does it entail? Is it tied into our giftings? Is it tied to how we treat our bodies? Where or how we serve? Is it a combination of all of these things? What does worship have to do with our bodies?
I am truly searching for answers here. I feel like I should know this, after all I grew up in the church. I’ve heard this verse countless times, yet here I sit and for the first time am truly wanting to understand what that verse means.
So my friends I am turning to you. Perhaps through you some light will be shed on this pondering heart.
